While the real star of this sighting is not the Mocha colored 996, we thought it prudent to include this sighting on Spotted 9s given our affinity for speed, rockets, and of course Porsche 911s.
On your mark, get ready, get set….
Our friends at Driven, the auto blog of the hit email newsletter UrbanDaddy.com spotted this dynamic duo via the site jameslist.com. It is a Bloodhound SSC hybrid fighter jet, Formula 1 car and rocket ship all in one. When it comes down to it, we at Spotted9s believe it really is one of the few only other reasonable things you could compare a 9 with…

Every once in a long while the history of the beloved and storied Porsche automobile has been eloquently captured in the pages of large coffee table books, posters, and calendars. On Friday March 4th Motorbooks Inc. released one of the most impressive historical perspectives and richest pictorials of Porsche in the book, Porsche: A History of Excellence. This newly Spotted book is authored by RandyLeffingwell, the best-selling Motorbooks author and extraordinary photographer, who has earned a reputation as one of the most diligent and renown Porsche authorities today. Randy dedicates the book to Porsche spokesman Bob Carlson, praising him as both a friend and “a colleague whom I deeply respect. He has supported encouraged, and aided my book efforts immeasurably for two decades,” according to Leffingwell. According to the release information we received, this book was important to publish because no other sports car has had a run like Porsche’s on the street or on the world’s racetracks. The Spotted 9s team’s experience with the book has been extremely enlightening as we go about the important work of chronicling and identifying vehicles we spot across the digital landscape, and throughout the towns, cities and countries around the world. Chapter one, as an example, delivers a joyfully biased overview of the Volkswagen roots of the Porsche origin. While chapters two through six are dedicated to the rich Porsche automotive racing heritage.
The book is broken down in chronological order, with each chapter teaching us something new about critical milestones leading up to today’s grand Porsche legacy. Chapter seven highlights takes the reader from 1970 to 1976 as the journey of the next generation began, which included the mid-engine mounted 914 Roadster. With twenty full-length chapters of Porsche history in text and photographs, this richly illustrated volume released on March 4th, 2011, tells a very complete story of the fabled Porsche marque. The renowned automotive writer, photographer and Porsche aficionado Leffingwell focuses his lens on each important model from the first 356 to today’s Cayman and 911. His pictures, in-depth analyses of each car, and interviews with key personnel all serve to comprise a comprehensive, compelling and often revealing history of the world’s premier name in sports cars. The book retails for $30 and is also available on Amazon.com.
Spotted 9s is welcoming to the 911 line, the 2011 Speedster. We think naming a Porsche a Speedster is slightly redundant not only because the name Porsche is synonymous with ‘speed’, but also because the earliest Porsche 356 was also named the Speedster…oh well.
On top of the world in the 2011 911 Speedster
Combining, the classic features of the well-known Speedster series with improved performance over the current 911 generation: The 3.8-liter flat six engine delivers 408 horsepower (hp), 23 hp more in comparison with the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet, yet is EPA rated the same at 19 mpg city / 27 mpg highway. The 2011 Porsche Speedster reaches 0-60 MPH in 4.2 seconds with Sport Chrono Plus and has a top-track speed of 190 mph (305 km/h) – all courtesy of Porsche Intelligent Performance.
Paying homage to the first Porsche model to bear the Speedster name – the 356 Speedster – the new Porsche 911 Speedster made its debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. Significantly different from other members of the 911 family, this two-seat roadster features a 2.36″ lower, more raked windscreen and the characteristic speedster double-bubble hardcover for the manual soft top. Helping to define the striking profile of the new 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster, the 1.73″ wide-body from the AWD 911 models makes the rear-wheel-drive only Speedster stand out even more. The production run of this special car will be limited to 356 units worldwide, with approximately 100 heading to the U.S., will we spot you in one of these limited edition blue bombshells?

991 spied on the test track
As Spotted by the WorldCarFans.com team and Spotted9s, these images of the 2012 Porsche 911 (991) are among the most sought after images relating to spied images of the 2012 model. While this vehicle carries on the tradition of the 911, it calls for a definite upgrade to the numbers you call out in an emergency. That’s why for this spotting…somebody call 9-9-1!
From what you’ve read and seen about the 2012 911, do you think Porsche is getting better with age or straying too far from the formula?

Red-diculously Rambunctious 911 GT
Spotted on a mid-western pre-driven exotic cars lot, this 2007 Guards Red Porsche 911 GT gives off a ridiculous and rambunctious vibe as it poses on the lot for our spotted 9s’ camera. It was saying buy me…buy me, but alas, the best we could do was feature it among this week’s Spotted 9s sightings.
Would you know what to do with yourself in a room full of Porsche 911’s, especially if the keys were left in the ignition of each one? We spotted this varied array of our favored 9’s from a top secret overhead spy cam of a warehouse whose location has yet to be disclosed. Just know that the Spotted 9’s team will go to the ends of the earth to get you the most interesting gallery of 911s you’ll ever find.
